About me

I’m originally from Portugal and moved to the UK almost 6 years ago. I trained as a dietitian in Lisbon, Portugal and moved to England to build a career in clinical nutrition. Whilst I am fascinated with the intricacies of clinical nutrition and its ability to act as a treatment and optimise recovery, I believe prevention in healthcare should not be forgotten and this starts by promoting health literacy.

Currently, I am working as a highly specialist Gastroenterology dietitian, but I have previously worked in a variety of clinical specialities such as surgery, acute medicine, neurology, nephrology, infectious diseases and intensive care. I also have extensive working experience in the field of eating disorders and disordered eating. Along with my clinical practice, I have also contributed to research in clinical nutrition and I teach classes on eating disorders in a post-graduate degree in Portugal.

I moved to the UK

After finishing my internship which allowed access to the Portuguese Regulatory Body (Ordem dos Nutricionistas) I moved to England with the intention to work in the acute hospital setting.

My job in the acute has always been fulfilling but something was missing  - I created my instagram page Em banho Maria in 2012 which allowed me to talk about all things nutrition in Portuguese (something I missed!) and explore other topics like mental health and our relationship with food.

Podcast Em Banho Maria

I also have a podcast where I invite specialist guests to talk about various subjects within the world of nutrition, eating behaviours, psychology and health in general. Again, most episodes are in portuguese but you can still find a few in english and there’s more to come, I promise!

Book "Intestino Descomplicado "

I have published a book in 2022 Intestino Descomplicado in Portugal about Nutrition and Gut health - an area that I explore a lot in my private clinics.

More projects...

Over the years, I’ve built my presence in social media, a career in clinical nutrition and built a client database as a freelance dietitian. To respond to the increasing demand of requests for appointments, I built my team of dietitians and began to develop webinars, attend health and nutrition conferences, published a book and launched my first edition of postcards in 2023.
